AdFuturus team is proud to have been volunteers at “Gyulai István Memorial Atlétikai Magyar Nagydij”, an international track & field event which took place in Székesfehérvár, Hungary on July 8, 2014. Named after Gyulai István, former Secretary General of IAAF and commentator on Hungarian television for T&F events, the meet was frequented by hundreds of athletes from all around the world, among which there were top-class Olympians and world record holders such as Krisztián Pars, Ashton Eaton, Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Paweł Fajdek, Tianna Bartoletta, DeeDee Trotter, Lolo Jones, Carmelita Jeter. They competed in various events such as track events, shot put, discus throw, long jump, high jump, pole vault etc. Accredited by European Athletics, and by IAAF as a permitted hammer throw challenge, not only attracted a few thousands of spectators but is also ranked 13th among the invitational/one-day competitions in the world for 2014 so far.
We, as the AdFuturus volunteers were in the call room, the final stop before the pitch with an amazing atmosphere where all the athletes warmed up and checked in for their events. It was such a unique experience and a lot of fun to help the athletes getting ready for the competition. Our task included handing over a bottle of water, or attaching the name-tag on their backs, escorting them along the way to the track as well as assisting the starter of the competition. Although our contribution was modest, what we have done was surely more than just witnessing a competition. We had the chance to share the excitement, ambition and the joy of the athletes which was priceless! We are looking forward to the next event to show our enthusiasm and support of the sports and athletes.
